Kocharyan’s Armenia Alliance to Contest Election Results in Constitutional Court

| News, Politics, Armenia

The Armenia alliance led by Robert Kocharyan said it will challenge the parliamentary election results in the Constitutional Court, alleging pressure and unfair conditions during the campaign and the vote.

Alliance representative Ishkhan Saghatelyan said the bloc is assembling a package of evidence and will formally contest the results once the Central Electoral Commission publishes the final outcome. He claimed the alliance holds “numerous facts” pointing to irregularities, even though international observers assessed the elections as generally calm and fair.

Saghatelyan also confirmed that the alliance requested recounts in several polling stations.

Under the preliminary count, the ruling Civil Contract finished first with 49.825% (727,827 votes), securing a parliamentary majority, followed by the Strong Armenia alliance on 23.281% (340,088 votes) and the Armenia alliance on 9.934% (145,113 votes).

The Prosperous Armenia Party, meanwhile, fell just short of the threshold at 3.996% and has signaled it too will contest the results.

Separately, Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office said it had launched a public criminal prosecution against Prosperous Armenia leader Gagik Tsarukyan on charges of tax evasion on a particularly large scale. Authorities said a travel ban had been imposed as a preventive measure while the case proceeds.
