Kremlin Acknowledges Differing Views With Azerbaijan on Ukraine but Seeks to Restore Warmer Ties
On July 22, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is aware of Azerbaijan’s position on the war in Ukraine. He acknowledged that Moscow and Baku hold differing views on the matter.
During his remarks, Peskov emphasized that despite these disagreements, the Kremlin remains hopeful that they will not obstruct the process of restoring warmer relations with Baku. "At the same time, these disagreements have not been an obstacle, and we hope they will not become one, to moving past what we hope is a brief period of cooling in our bilateral relations," Peskov stated. He added that Russia hopes "we do not sacrifice our mutual and mutually beneficial interests for the sake of a momentary situation."
