Moscow Cautions Yerevan Against Western Influence Detrimental to Russian Ties

On March 28, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova conveyed her assessment asserting that Armenia is increasingly being utilized as a tool to advance the perilous agendas of the collective West, contradicting the fundamental interests of the Armenian people.

While the Armenian Foreign Ministry previously stated that the trilateral meeting in Brussels isn't aimed against any specific entity, Zakharova expressed Russia's apprehensions. She highlighted that US and EU representatives explicitly articulate their primary focus being directed against Russia. "They directly tell our partners that their main focus is exclusively against Russia. They say so directly, in plain text," Zakharova emphasized.

Zakharova further contended that such gatherings provoke concerns among most regional countries. Rather than fostering peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, she suggested these meetings aim to deepen Western involvement with their highly destructive approaches in the South Caucasus, thereby creating new fault lines. This pressure, she argued, compels regional nations to adhere to an anti-Russian agenda, jeopardizing longstanding ties with Moscow and undermining existing mechanisms of regional security and economic cooperation.

"Why official Yerevan pretends not to understand what we are talking about is a big question. After all, Armenia is being turned before the eyes of the whole world into an instrument for the realization of extremely dangerous plans of the collective West, which are completely at odds with the fundamental interests of the Armenian people," Zakharova concluded.
