Moscow Expresses Hope for Continued Allied Relations with Armenia
On June 13, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia will continue to engage with Armenia to clarify Yerevan's stance on the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
He said Moscow expects to maintain partnership and allied relations with Armenia.
"As for Armenia, we will continue to work with our Armenian friends, we will clarify their position. Of course, we hope that in any case we will maintain partnership and allied relations," Peskov said when asked to comment on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's remarks on Armenia's possible withdrawal from the CSTO. Peskov stressed that each country sets its own priorities.
"Our priorities are well understood, we consistently defend them, and also these priorities in the field of security, collective security are shared with us by the (CSTO) member countries," Peskov said.
Recently, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that "the next logical step" in light of the current situation with the CSTO would be Armenia's withdrawal from the military-political bloc. "We will decide in a month, a year or three years," he added.
