MPs Resign from Georgian Parliament
On March 20, Irakli Kovzanadze, chairman of the parliament's Finance and Budget Committee, decided to resign as an MP. Kovzanadze filed a statement on terminating his parliamentary powers with the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules.
Also, Davit Sergeenko and Vladimir Chachibaia, the members of the Georgian Dream faction, intend to quit the legislative body.
Vladimer Chachibaia, a member of Georgian Dream, said he wants to leave the Parliament. According to Chachibaia, the decision not to vote for the so-called agents' draft law does not give him the right or opportunity to remain in parliament.
"I do not think I was ready for parliamentary life. You know I was in the army for 30 years. My personal desire is to leave the Parliament, but at the same time, I remain a loyal member of our party. My personal desire is to step down as an MP because I think I may realize myself more in the public service or any other service than in parliamentary life. In addition, I think that my decision does not give me the right or the opportunity to stay in the Parliament, I mean my decision not to vote for the so-called agents' draft law," he added.
"I will leave my mandate and leave the Parliament, although I will talk to the party leadership for the final decision, my personal and persistent request is that this issue be resolved positively," Chachibaia stressed.
