Nikol Pashinyan Discusses Joint Projects with Director General of Rosatom
On May 2, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Director General of Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev and his delegation, the Press Office of the Armenian Prime Minister reported.
The Prime Minister attached importance to the cooperation between the Armenian Government and Rosatom Corporation, within the framework of which a number of joint projects are successfully implemented. Referring to the partnership in the field of atomic energy, Nikol Pashinyan noted the role of "Rosatom" in extending the operation period of the second power unit of the Armenian NPP.
Thanking the Prime Minister of Armenia for commending his company, Alexey Likhachev assessed the work with the Armenian partners as effective. He noted that "Rosatom" is interested in continuing the mutually beneficial partnership.
In the context of bilateral cooperation, the interlocutors discussed current programs and perspectives of new initiatives. Reference was made to the extension of the operation period of the second power unit of the Armenian NPP. The sides exchanged ideas on constructing a new nuclear power unit in Armenia, possible cooperation in the field of nuclear medicine, and a partnership on f decontamination of hazardous waste at "Nairit Plant" CJSC.
Notably, the Armenian authorities will take steps to build a new nuclear power unit in the republic by 2035-2036, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan announced on April 20. According to him, these works should begin as early as ten years before the proposed commissioning of new civilian nuclear facilities in 2025-2026.
