Armenia-Türkiye normalisation, ties with the EU and Iran, regional security and economic cooperation featured in Nikol Pashinyan’s meetings in New York.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a series of meetings in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, including with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Romanian President Nicușor Dan, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu. He also met representatives of the US business and academic sectors and attended a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump.

The meeting with Erdoğan the normalisation of Armenia-Türkiye relations and the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries. The leaders emphasized the need to maintain progress and give new impetus to bilateral ties, with trade, economic cooperation, and contacts between business communities among the areas identified for further work. They also attached importance to the joint restoration of the historic Ani Bridge.

Pashinyan and Erdoğan noted that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan would support broader regional cooperation and highlighted the implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, or TRIPP, together with the opening of regional transport corridors.

Pashinyan’s meeting with von der Leyen the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda, including EU support for economic diversification and democratic reforms. The European Commission president confirmed continued EU support for Armenia’s government programmes and cooperation in different sectors.

Pashinyan also met with other European leaders to advance bilateral relations, Armenia-EU ties, and regional cooperation. With Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he expanding Armenia-Greece political and economic ties, including plans for reciprocal high-level visits. With Romanian President Nicușor Dan, the talks political dialogue and cooperation in the economic and cultural spheres, as well as regional developments and measures to promote peace and stability. His meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb political and economic cooperation, Armenia-EU relations, and regional developments.

Pashinyan and Iranian Pezeshkian on Armenia-Iran trade and economic relations and the further expansion of bilateral cooperation. The two leaders also stressed the importance of peace and stability in the region.

The meeting with Guterres preparations for the 17th UN Conference on Biological Diversity, COP17, which Armenia will host in October, as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and regional cooperation. With OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Pashinyan considered cooperation between Armenia and the organisation, its ongoing programmes and regional security.

The meetings took place during Pashinyan’s September 22-25 working visit to the United States for the UN General Assembly, where Armenia has placed particular emphasis on relations with regional neighbours and international partners, as well as the economic opportunities connected to the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process.
