The action of taxi drivers in Nakhchivan

Some taxi drivers held a protest in Nakhchivan.

Drivers said that in March of this year, they were forced to replace their private cars with Naz-Lifan brand taxis that were assembled in Nakhchivan.

"Anyone could not work as a taxi driver in Nakhchivan. During the time of Vasif Talibov, taxis had to be only NAZ Lifan cars. They did not allow other cars to operate as taxis. As soon as we protested, they took the cars to the penalty area and canceled our license. We were forced to do so in order not to starve. We used to agree. These 20,000 manat-worth [EUR 11,000] cars were sold to us for 35,000 manats [EUR 19,000]," the protesters stated.

One of the taxi drivers' complaints is from the traffic police administration of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (MR). They claim that they had to pay extra for paperwork when registering taxis.

However, Elvin Ahmadli, an employee of the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant, denied the claims that the cars were old and sold at a high price.

"A corresponding order has been signed in this regard. He has started to perform his duties as a police colonel," he said.
