Russia plans to build a new military base in Armenia

| News, Armenia

Armenian Hraparak daily newspaper reports that the government decided to change the October 3, 2012, protocol on establishing the Russian military facility in the Armenian territory, which is when the first news regarding the development of a new Russian military base in Armenian territory initially surfaced.

Although a new military base is not mentioned in the justification, it is claimed that the placement points of the Russian military base are changing, along with the amount of land and other immovable property being transferred to the Russian side and the legal documents that serve as the base's foundation.

However, in reality, this will determine where a new military installation will be located, for which a separate Protocol No. 2 will be signed. It will be followed by the signing of the international pact between Russia and Armenia, which has not yet been finished and has to be passed by the parliament.

In other words, because the Russians will be fighting in that war, it will be harder for the aggressors to drag Armenia into a new conflict. The second condition is that by doing this, Russia is establishing rights, pushing for the area, and perhaps even laying the foundation for a new union.

The Noyemberyan and Berd expanded settlements in Tavush Province are inside the administrative limits of the territories being transferred to the [new] Russian military facility. “Our knowledge indicates that they will be stationed in the communities of Noyemberyan and the towns of Aygepar and Voskepar. According to early estimates, we will get roughly 2,000 Russian forces," the newspaper stated.
