Russia's FM: "Deployment of CSTO Mission Would Provide Armenia with Greater Stability"
On May 17, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Armenia would benefit from deploying the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) mission and have a more stable situation.
"We were ready in the same way (as in Kazakhstan in January 2022) to help such a CSTO member as Armenia. In the autumn of 2022, for the organization’s summit in Yerevan, a document was prepared on the deployment of the CSTO observer mission on Armenian territory at the request of our Armenian allies. The document was fully agreed upon at the level of foreign ministers. Then, at the last moment, at the summit itself, Armenian friends asked to postpone its adoption. Until now, it remains in paper form and cannot be implemented," the head of Russian diplomacy said.
Lavrov further expressed confidence that if Yerevan confirmed what had already been agreed and remained ready for the signing and entry into force of the said document, then Armenia would win and get a more stable situation.
