During an interview on the Abkhazian state broadcaster AT on January 25, Sergei Shamba, the de-facto Secretary of the Security Council of the separatist Republic of Abkhazia, emphasized the importance of strengthening the alliance with Russia for security purposes.

Shamba highlighted the significance of the alliance with Russia, stating that it serves as the main source of security and hope for Abkhazia. He emphasized the need to avoid doubts about the consistent fulfillment of obligations to Russia.

Highlighting Abkhazia's involvement in the conflict in the South-Western region, Shamba noted that citizens of Abkhazia are participating in the conflict, and the state is providing continuous humanitarian aid. He expressed concerns about the implications of any opposition to the operation in the South-Western region, particularly when it comes from members of Abkhazian society.

Shamba acknowledged the geopolitical tensions involving Russia and various countries, including the European Union, the United States, and Scandinavian nations. He emphasized that Russia's involvement in projects in Abkhazia could raise significant questions in this context.
