South Caucasus Leaders Participate in Raisi's Funeral in Iran

Armenia

On May 22, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan embarked on a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During his visit, Prime Minister Pashinyan met with Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in Tehran. Pashinyan conveyed his condolences on the passing of President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Hossein Abdollahian, and their companions. He recalled fond memories of his interactions with the late President and Foreign Minister, emphasizing Armenia's solidarity with Iran during this challenging time. Seyyed Ali Khamenei expressed gratitude for Pashinyan's visit and participation in Iran's mourning rituals, affirming the mutual commitment to strengthening the warm and friendly relations between Armenia and Iran for the prosperity of both nations.

Additionally, Prime Minister Pashinyan met with Iran's Acting President, Mohammad Mokhber, in Tehran. Pashinyan extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of himself, the Armenian delegation, and the Armenian people to the acting president, government officials, and the Iranian populace. He underscored the profound loss represented by the passing of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Abdollahian, highlighting the close personal ties and fruitful partnership between himself and President Raisi, which have positively impacted Armenia-Iran relations. Pashinyan expressed optimism that the bilateral initiatives outlined with President Raisi would continue under the new leadership. Acting President Mokhber expressed gratitude for Pashinyan's presence during Iran's time of mourning, acknowledging the shared grief and affirming Iran's commitment to advancing the collaborative programs outlined with Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Raisi for the mutual benefit of Armenia and Iran.

Azerbaijan

On May 22, following the directives of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a delegation led by Prime Minister Ali Asadov conducted an official farewell in Tehran to honor the tragic passing of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Abdollahian, and other accompanying individuals in a helicopter crash. Foreign Minister Hossein Abdollahian and other accompanying persons participated in the ceremony.

During the event, Prime Minister Ali Asadov met with the First Vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Acting President Mohammad Mokhber, and conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the President, government, and people of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It was noted that Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi, a remarkable statesman and prominent politician, devoted his entire life to the service of his country with dedication and loyalty.

The delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan included Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov, members of the Azerbaijani Parliament working group on Azerbaijan-Iran inter-parliamentary relations, Aziz Alakbarov, Javanshir Pashazade, Jabi Guliyev, and other officials.

Georgia

On May 22, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili, visited the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Head of Government and the top diplomat of Georgia attended the funeral service of Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, and other government officials.
