| News, Politics, Armenia

The results of a recent survey conducted by the International Republican Institute have shown that the majority of Armenians trust Western countries more than Russia. The survey was conducted among Armenian citizens and the results prove that the Armenian people no longer believe in the myths of Russia being their unconditional and only ally.

The survey revealed that 63% of Armenians evaluate the current state of relations between Armenia and France as “very good” and 33% as “somewhat good.” Iran is the next in the ranking: 38% of respondents described the Armenian-Iranian relations as “very good,” and 53% as “somewhat good.” The US was in the third place with 21% of Armenians rating the state of Armenia-US relations as “very good” and 67% as “somewhat good.” The EU was in the fourth place with a positive result. 18% of Armenians assessed the state of Armenia-EU relations as “very good” and 68% as “somewhat good.”

When it comes to Russia, the survey showed that only 10% of Armenians assessed the current state of relations between Russia and Armenia as “very good” and 40% as “somewhat good.” 15% rated the current state of relations between Russia and Armenia as “very bad” and 34% as “somewhat bad.”

The survey also revealed that Armenians consider France to be their absolute leader as an important political partner state. 75% of Armenian citizens consider France to be Armenia's most important political partner. Iran is in second place with 67%, due to the fact that Tehran has declared the inviolability of Armenia's borders as a “red line.” The USA was in third place, with 52% of Armenians considering it an important political partner.

In the category of security partners, Iran ranks first, with a positive index of 54%. France is the second most important security partner for Armenians, with 52%. Russia is in third place with 50%. The USA is the fourth country as Armenia's security partner with a 37% index.

The survey also showed that Russia is seen in Armenia as an economic and political threat. 28% of Armenians expressed that Russia is an economic threat, and 24% consider Russia a political threat.
