TotalEnergies Azerbaijan to Boost Gas Exports to Europe via Absheron Phase Two
On June 4, Emmanuel de Guillebon, Chairman of TotalEnergies Azerbaijan, announced that Azerbaijan would increase gas exports to Europe as domestic consumption grows, with the second phase of the Absheron project serving as the primary source of production growth.
During his remarks at the 30th Baku Energy Forum, de Guillebon stated that TotalEnergies is launching an underwater development project involving the drilling of three or four additional wells and the construction of a 140-kilometer pipeline to the Sangachal terminal. He explained that a new plant will be built near the terminal, utilizing a multiphase pipeline capable of transporting gas and condensate together.
According to de Guillebon, this approach allows the company to use a pipeline with reduced thermal insulation, nearly halving pipeline construction costs. The second phase of Absheron, operated by the French energy company, represents Azerbaijan’s only significant production increase as it prepares to expand gas supplies to European markets.
