Speaking at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting in Sochi, Russia, on 8 June, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said that Azerbaijan is an important link in the East-West and North-South transport routes. "Over the past 20 years, thousands of kilometres of roads and railways have been built or overhauled in the country," he added.
The Prime Minister believes that economic and trade relations are the main vector of mutual relations. "According to the results of last year, the trade turnover of Azerbaijan with the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union increased by 31 percent and amounted to 4.7 billion dollars. The share of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union in the foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan was about 9 per cent. It was 38 per cent," Asadov said.
Commenting on the transport partnership, Asadov noted that major changes in the global geopolitical landscape have forced many countries to reorganise logistics chains and flows. "Against this background, the importance of transport and transit corridors passing through the territory of our states is growing. The flow of goods through the territory of Azerbaijan is growing at a steady pace. According to the results of 2022, the increase was 75 per cent. In January-April of the current year, the volume of transit transport increased by 26 per cent," he noted.
