Gagloyev meets Putin at Kremlin
On March 16, the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Alan Gagloev, the de facto President of the separatist Republic of South Ossetia/Tskhinvali Region, took place in the Kremlin.
Putin noted that it is unnecessary to characterize relations between South Ossetia and Russia: "They are special, but relations are developing in all areas, including in the economic sphere."
"The trade growth over the past year amounted to 12%, in principle, a good indicator. We are developing almost all programs: an investment program, a program for socio-economic development, a financial assistance program, a loan program for assistance and support to South Ossetia," the President of Russia stated. Putin added, "A Russian military base is stationed on the republic's territory, and very close cooperation has been established between the relevant structures in this area."
Gagloev thanked Putin for the opportunity to personally convey sincere gratitude on behalf of the people of the Republic of South Ossetia. "We remember that in the most difficult times for the republic, the Russian Federation has always been there, supports and provides invaluable support to this day. We also remember August 2008, when the people of South Ossetia were under the threat of almost complete extermination, but thanks to exceptionally correct and timely decisions, the aggressor was stopped," the separatist President of South Ossetia said.
Gagloev emphasized, "Today, the republic shows its gratitude not only in words but also deeds." He stressed: "In a special military operation, Ossetian soldiers, together with their Russian brothers, are defending our common history, common values, our common faith. Moreover, it should be noted that all of them are sent there with confidence in victory because they understand that they are fighting for truth and historical justice. Many of them - it should be noted - were awarded state awards of the Russian Federation. We see what complex geopolitical processes are taking place today, therefore, more than ever, we must coordinate our actions within the framework of a common security contour."
