UK's Minister of State for Europe Begins South Caucasus Tour in Armenia

On November 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Leo Docherty, the Minister of State of the United Kingdom for Europe and North America, the Press Office of the Armenian Prime Minister reported.

The Prime Minister noted that the relations between Armenia and the United Kingdom are active and emphasized the importance of the first session of the recent Armenia-UK strategic dialogue. Nikol Pashinyan expressed confidence that Armenian-British cooperation has great potential and high-level mutual visits will contribute to its full realization.

Leo Docherty emphasized the recent official visit of the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to the United Kingdom, which gave a new impetus to the expansion and deepening of bilateral ties. The Under-Secretary of State emphasized the UK's interest in deepening cooperation with Armenia.

The sides referred to the issues related to the normalization process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. The importance of continuing the peace process based on the principles agreed upon in the trilateral meetings held in Brussels on May 14 and July 15, 2023, was emphasized. "The humanitarian problems of more than 100,000 forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing policy, as well as the steps taken by the Armenian government to overcome them, were discussed. In this regard, the international community's humanitarian support to the population of Nagorno-Karabakh was highlighted," the report noted.

On the same day, Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, met with Leo Docherty, the Press Office of the Security Council reported.

The interlocutors emphasized the development and further strengthening of Armenia-UK relations. They discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the security sector. Also, the parties addressed geopolitical and regional security issues. They stressed that there is no alternative to peace in Armenia's region.
