Armenia

On July 27, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan received Abdulla Shahid, the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations and the Foreign Minister of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid, and his delegation.

Khachaturyan hailed Abdulla Shahid’s effective presidency during the 76th session of the General Assembly. "I am happy to welcome you to the Republic of Armenia. Your visit coincided with the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s membership in the United Nations," President Khachaturyan said. "I want to emphasize the establishment of democratic institutions, in which the role of the UN was significant. During these 30 years, our state actively cooperated with all UN structures and implemented various programs, mainly aimed at eliminating poverty and inequalities and establishing a legally stable state," he added.

Abdulla Shahid noted that it is a big honor for him to visit Armenia while celebrating the 30th anniversary of the membership of the Republic of Armenia in the United Nations Organization. He emphasized that all the programs with Armenia aimed at improving the lives of citizens will continue to be implemented.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Abdulla Shahid referred to the issues related to regional security and stability. The President also addressed the issues related to returning the "Armenian war prisoners and hostages still kept in Azerbaijan." The President of the UN General Assembly welcomed Armenia's efforts to promote peace, noting that establishing a long and stable peace will create broad opportunities for all the region's countries.

On a working visit to Armenia, Abdulla Shahid also visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial in Armenia. He paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Later, he had a guided tour at the Armenian Genocide Museum.

Azerbaijan

At the opening ceremony of the Youth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member countries in Baku from July 25 to 29, the President of the United Nations General Assembly greeted the creation of a youth network of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Shahid emphasized that thanks to Azerbaijan, young people can contribute to the development of global sustainability. "It is necessary to strengthen the youth platform, create the basis for an inclusive and dignified life," he noted.

The summit participants will discuss the event's final documents, participate in a simulation of the NAM model, a training session on the effective management of organizations, panel discussions, and hold presentations.

Georgia

On July 25, Abdulla Shahid met with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

President Shahid discussed Georgia's interests at the UN, including peace and security, sustainable development, and tourism, during the meeting with President Zourabichvili. He praised Georgia for its dedication to gender equality and multilateralism.

President Zourabichvili also expressed concern over talks of a deal between occupied Abkhazia and Russia for the former to transfer 186 hectares of land in the Soviet-era town of Bichvinta to the latter in a move that she dubbed a form of annexation.

On July 25, President Shahid met with Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili. During their conversation, they discussed ways to cooperate on subjects, including gender equality and human rights.

Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, joined President Shahid for a meeting at the Foreign Ministry. He stated Georgia's support for the goals defined under Shahid's Presidency. They emphasized the importance of multilateral diplomacy, rules-based international order, and encouragement for the greater active engagement of women in politics in light of recent global issues.
