Unblocking communications can increase Armenia's GDP by 30% in two years
Unblocking communications with Azerbaijan and Turkey will help increase Armenia's GDP by 30% in two years, the Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan stated on Monday during the Armenian-Russian business forum in Yerevan.
According to the minister, these numbers are not only Armenian assessments, they are analyses of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
"We all understand that the unblocking of roads will increase the competitiveness of our joint economic development projects. Russian companies and organisations involved in bilateral negotiations take this into account," Kerobyan added.
The head of the Ministry of Economy stressed that Yerevan’s goal is to bring these negotiations to a reasonable conclusion with full consideration of Armenian interests.
On January 11, 2021, after negotiations between the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, Nikol Pashinyan, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev respectively, the creation of a working group under the leadership of the deputy prime ministers of the three countries was announced. The following expert subgroups have been created: for rail, road, and combined transport; on issues of ensuring transportation, including security, border, customs, sanitary, veterinary, phytosanitary, and other types of control. The work of the commission was temporarily suspended due to the tense situation at the border, but recently the meetings in the trilateral format have resumed.
