US and EU Discuss Peace Process Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

On May 11, Antony Blinken wrote on his Twitter account that he discussed peace in the South Caucasus with the President of the Council of the European Union (EU) Charles Michel. "It's great to discuss support for Ukraine, South Caucasus peace, and deepening our transatlantic partnership with EU Council President Charles Michel today [May 11]," Blinken said.

At the same time, the Press Service of the US State Department released official information about Antony Blinken's speech. "US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the opportunities for supporting sustainable and long-term peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia in a telephone conversation with the President of the Council of the European Union (EU) Charles Michel. The parties also reaffirmed the support of the US and the EU for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine," the statement added.

Notably, on May 10 and 11, there was a skirmish between the two countries' military forces on the delimited border of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the area between the Kalbajar region of Azerbaijan and the Vardenis region of Armenia. 1 Azerbaijani and 4 Armenian servicemen were injured. The parties report that tension remains on the front line.
