The Visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to Qatar 

Irakli Garibashvili, the prime minister of Georgia, is attending the annual Doha Economic Forum. During this visit, Irakli Garibashvili met with the Prime Minister of Qatar and the Minister of Internal Affairs Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani. The close and fruitful cooperation between the two countries, the deepening of economic and business relations, was the main topic of the meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar and Interior Minister. The sides also emphasised their willingness to strengthen economic and trade ties. 

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Governments of Georgia and Qatar signed two agreements on the mutual promotion and protection of investments and on economic, trade, and technical cooperation between the Governments of Georgia and Qatar. Additionally, Garibashvili appreciated Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani for the close collaboration and hospitality. 

During his visit to Qatar, the Prime Minister also met with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan. The two parties addressed the possibility of enhancing bilateral relations. During the conversation, the good connections formed between Georgia and Kazakhstan were remarked upon, and a willingness to expand the current collaboration was stated. 

NATO and Georgia

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was invited to the Madrid Summit by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, which will be held on June 28-30 in Madrid, Spain. He also invited the Commonwealth of Australia's Prime Minister (Anthony Albanese), the President of the Republic of Finland (Sauli Niinisto), the Prime Minister of Japan (Fumio Kishida), the President of the Republic of Korea (Yoon Seok-youl), the Prime Minister of New Zealand (Jacinda Ardern), the Prime Minister of Sweden (Magdalena Andersson), the President of the European Council (Charles Michel), and the President of the European Commission (Ursula von der Leyden). 

He mentioned that by invading Ukrainian lands, Russia had shattered the peace in Europe. The implications of this illegal and unwarranted conflict will be felt beyond the Euro-Atlantic region, which is already undergoing a reconfiguration of global security. Russia and other authoritarian states are undermining the international rule of law. The rapid reaction of the transatlantic community to Russia's brutal attack is astounding, as is its unity and solidarity. 

He added that during the summit, parties should concentrate on global concerns and, in particular, on China's expanding strength and sphere of influence, as well as their consequences for the parties' national interests and security. At the Madrid Summit, the Allies will agree on a new strategic concept that will outline the main principles and aims of the Alliance in preparation for a world that is increasingly dangerous and unpredictable. This approach will enhance the new strategy towards Russia, provide a common ground for the difficulties presented by China, and reinforce the will of NATO to defend its friends against all dangers. “I am looking forward to seeing you in Madrid! "— the letter signifies.

The invitation to the summit coincided with ambiguous remarks made by the Georgian Prime Minister about NATO. As Garibashvili said in Doha, "We are not naive. We recognise that Georgia has difficulties. We must first resolve the situation before joining NATO. This is the view of our European and NATO allies. " 

In highlighting the desire of the Georgian Dream government and its "readiness" to join the coalition, he said, "Not everything depends on our will alone as membership in NATO needs consent from all member nations. " Also, the Prime Minister said that 80% of Georgians support joining the Euro-Atlantic Union. In 2017, most members of the Georgian Dream party voted for constitutional changes that made the Euro-Atlantic track Georgia's foreign policy direction.
