Another treason among Armenia's military discovered
In Stepanakert/Khankendi, the National Security Service (NSS) of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic revealed 5 cases of treason.
"The servicemen got to know the foreign special service employee who presented himself as an Armenian on his Facebook and Tik-Tok social media. After some time in contact, they revealed to him the location of the military unit they served, the number of servicemen on combat duty, weapons, and provided information that contained state and service secrets," NSS stated.
In return, 200 dollars were transferred to the bank account of one of them. Others have not received their promised salaries. Based on the evidence obtained from the preliminary investigation, a pretrial detention measure was chosen for three servicemen. Military men accused of espionage admit on camera that they collected classified information for a foreign special service agency. However, the name of the foreign country has not been disclosed.
One accused said he met the woman to whom he sent confidential information in May 2021 on Facebook. "She asked me about the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh, the number and social condition of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, military mobilization, the combat readiness of the army, military-patriotic organizations, and the situation in the border region. In exchange for the information I collected and transmitted, they paid me 200 USD. I urge everyone to avoid contacting people they do not know on social networks. If you are already in this situation, contact the National Security Service," he said.
Another accused person said: "I am a military serviceman. At the beginning of 2021, I met a girl who lives in Georgia on the Facebook social network and who, according to her, is of Armenian nationality. We had a relationship of a romantic nature. After some time, she became interested in information about my military unit. She asked for information about the location of combat positions, the damage caused by the war, the current political and social situation inNagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, and the Russian peacekeeping forces. I sent her photos of me in combat positions. I took pictures of the checkpoints of the Russian peacekeepers and sent them. I have provided information about the personnel of my military unit and the types and number of weapons. I have provided the personal information of the commander of the military unit."
Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, said during an online press conference that more than 50 Armenian servicemen had been accused of espionage. According to Pashinyan, it turned out, in particular, that the soldier who wrote the coordinates for the Armenian side was an Azerbaijani agent and gave incorrect coordinates. He also noted that society does not know the details of the criminal cases initiated after the 44-day war against military personnel.
