Azerbaijan Calls for 'Dialogue and Diplomatic Resolution' Between Israel and Iran

| News, Politics, Azerbaijan

On June 13, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed serious concern over the military operations conducted by Israel against Iranian territory, strongly condemning the escalation. The ministry called on both parties to resolve their disagreements exclusively through dialogue and diplomatic means in accordance with international law, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. It highlighted the importance of continuing diplomatic contacts and using relevant international mechanisms to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
In a separate statement, the ministry advised Azerbaijani citizens to avoid traveling to Iran unless necessary due to the tense security situation. Those currently in Iran were urged to exercise extreme caution, avoid areas near military and nuclear facilities, and follow security instructions from local authorities. Azerbaijani nationals were also encouraged to contact the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran or the Consulate General in Tabriz in case of emergencies.
Notably, on June 13, Israel initiated a series of preemptive airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, including facilities in Natanz, Khondab, and Khorramabad. The operation also targeted military installations and the residences of high-ranking officials, such as IRGC Commander Hossein Salami and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri. The strikes resulted in the deaths of several top military commanders and nuclear scientists. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) justified the operation by citing Iran’s advanced uranium enrichment activities, which had reached 60% purity, nearing weapons-grade levels. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had recently reported Iran’s non-compliance with nuclear obligations, further escalating tensions. In response, Iran vowed a “harsh response,” with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning of a “bitter and painful” fate for Israel. Iran’s military has reportedly mobilized for missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory. The situation has prompted Israel to declare a state of emergency and prepare for potential Iranian retaliation.
