Antony Blinken and Ilham Aliyev Discuss Future of Negotiations
On November 16, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani President reported.
The US Secretary of State once again emphasized that on November 7 this year, the subsequent negotiations of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the peace treaty were held in Washington and that the United States is determined to contribute to the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that State Secretary Antony Blinken's constant attention to the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the efforts of the United States in this direction are highly appreciated. However, Aliyev noted that despite the efforts and negotiations in this direction, the contradictory statements made by the Armenian leadership in recent days hurt the normalization of relations between the two countries and the advancement of the peace agenda," the information stated.
During the telephone conversation, Antony Blinken noted that there is a historical opportunity for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the signing of a peace treaty. He said that the United States would continue its efforts in this direction. "The Secretary of State stressed that the United States supports the peace process and called on both sides to plan the next negotiations as agreed in Washington. He called on President Aliyev to observe the ceasefire regime and limit provocations while exploring confidence-building measures with Armenia to pave the way for peace," Price noted.
On November 15, Caucasus Watch reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The interlocutors exchanged ideas on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, particularly the November 7 meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington and the subsequent trilateral meeting.
