Armenia and Iran Aim to Boost Trade to $3 Billion

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan reaffirmed that Armenia’s relations with Iran are steadily developing and remain a priority for the Armenian government. Speaking at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Mirzoyan highlighted progress across multiple sectors, emphasizing a significant increase in trade turnover in 2024.
“The trade turnover between Armenia and Iran in 2024 exceeded the figures of the previous five years. Today, we discussed the possibility of increasing this volume to $3 billion,” Mirzoyan stated. He also noted that Armenia-Iran trade opportunities have expanded with the agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on establishing a free trade zone.
Mirzoyan emphasized Iran's participation in Armenia's strategic infrastructure projects, including constructing the Kajaran-Agarak section, a key component of Armenia's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative. "Iran was one of the first to welcome this initiative and is actively contributing to its implementation," he added.
Iranian FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi underscored the untapped potential in bilateral relations and expressed Iran's readiness to facilitate transit and cargo transportation through key trade corridors, including routes to the Black Sea, the Persian Gulf, India, and Oman. He also mentioned plans to construct a new bridge over the Arax River to enhance connectivity.
Araghchi praised the “Crossroads of Peace” project, stating that its successful implementation would create substantial opportunities for regional cooperation and further strengthen ties between Iran and Armenia.
