Armenia and UNECE Explore Expansion of Environmental and Economic Collaboration

On May 26, Tatiana Molcean, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to discuss ongoing and future cooperation between Armenia and various UN bodies, focusing on sustainable development, environmental protection, and infrastructure modernization.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan welcomed Ms. Molcean’s visit to Armenia and underlined the country’s appreciation for the UN’s role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, enhancing collaboration in environmental and economic fields, and building national capacities. They explored ways to expand cooperation between Armenia and UN structures, particularly the UNECE, and reviewed progress on joint programs.
Pashinyan presented the Armenian Government’s vision for modernizing infrastructure across transport, logistics, energy, and digital sectors. In this context, he referenced the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, aimed at reopening regional transport routes based on principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity.
The discussion also covered the upcoming 17th Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which Armenia will host in 2026, highlighting its significance for both regional and global environmental agendas. Tatiana Molcean expressed gratitude for the reception and confirmed UNECE’s readiness to continue cooperating with Armenia, especially in sustainable development, water resource management, and environmental protection.
