On May 6, during a telephone conversation initiated by the Ukrainian side, Maka Botchorishvili, the Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Andrii Sybiha, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, discussed bilateral relations between Georgia and Ukraine, according to the Georgian Foreign Ministry. The sides emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue and continuing communication between the two countries.

Following the conversation, Sybiha stated on social media that the parties acknowledged the constructive nature of recent contacts and agreed on the mutual interest in restoring normal relations between Ukraine and Georgia. He noted that the discussion also covered bilateral cooperation and coordination within international organizations. "We also confirmed our openness to move forward in bilateral cooperation and maintain active contacts," Sybiha stated, adding that the conversation continued the dialogue established during recent meetings in Yerevan.

Speaking about the telephone conversation, Botchorishvili positively assessed the initiative coming from Kyiv and stated that the activation of communication from the Ukrainian side could be regarded as a constructive development. According to her, the sides agreed to continue discussions and hold an in-person meeting in the near future.

During an interview with Imedi TV on May 6, Botchorishvili stated that several unresolved issues had accumulated in Georgian-Ukrainian relations over the years and emphasized the importance of those matters being understood by the Ukrainian side "in the same way that we, the Georgian society, and the Georgian government have understood them." She also noted that for a long period communication from Ukraine toward Georgia had largely taken place through social media and had included "not very pleasant messages," which, according to her, could not simply be ignored.

Botchorishvili emphasized that the willingness of the Ukrainian side to engage in direct dialogue represented a positive step. "We agreed that we will have a meeting soon and be able to discuss what can be done to return relations between the two countries to normal," Botchorishvili stated.
