Armenia’s Foreign Minister Meets with US Under Secretary of State to Discuss Strengthening Strategic Partnership
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Bonnie Jenkins, the US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, on September 25 during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. According to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between Armenia and the US.
Mirzoyan highlighted Armenia’s appreciation for the US's continued support in advancing democratic reforms and promoting sustainable development. The interlocutors also exchanged views on several other issues of mutual interest.
Armenian FM Meets with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Volker Turk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. The discussions focused on Armenia's ongoing collaboration with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The importance of the UN’s role in safeguarding human rights and contributing to the establishment of lasting peace in the region was highlighted.
The meeting also touched on the Armenian government’s efforts to address the needs of forcibly displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the cooperation established with international partners in this regard. Additionally, Mirzoyan reiterated Armenia’s commitment to building lasting peace and stability in the region, including efforts to normalize relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia’s positions on key regional issues.
Armenian and German Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral and Regional Issues at UN GA
On September 24, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The two officials discussed a broad range of topics, including bilateral relations, strengthening Armenia-EU cooperation, and regional developments, as the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
Mirzoyan expressed appreciation for Germany's support of Armenia's democratic reforms through bilateral cooperation and the EU platform, noting that this has brought Armenia closer to the European Union. The ministers acknowledged the positive progress of Armenia-EU relations, particularly in the context of the new partnership agenda.
The conversation also delved into regional security issues, focusing on the latest developments in the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process. Mirzoyan emphasized that there is a genuine opportunity to sign a peace treaty, but it requires strong political will - a commitment Armenia has demonstrated.
