Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan Meets Pope Francis

On November 18, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with His Holiness Pope Francis during a working visit to the Holy See.

In their private conversation, Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed his gratitude, describing the visit to the Apostolic Palace as a great honor. He highlighted the importance of high-level mutual visits, reflecting the unique relationship between Armenia and the Holy See. Pashinyan noted that the appointment of a resident Apostolic Nuncio in Armenia would signify a significant step forward in strengthening their friendly relations.

The Prime Minister reiterated Armenia’s unwavering support for the Holy See’s peace agenda and emphasized the value of joint efforts on international platforms to promote global peace. He also briefed Pope Francis on the latest developments in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, reaffirming his government’s commitment to advancing peace and actively contributing to peacebuilding initiatives.

Pashinyan expressed his deep appreciation for the Holy See’s continued efforts to facilitate the release of Armenian prisoners of war. Their discussion also covered a range of other issues of mutual interest.

Following the private meeting, Pope Francis greeted the Prime Minister’s wife, Anna Hakobyan, his daughter, and other members of the accompanying delegation.
