Armenian Speaker to Russian Officials: "Stop Threatening Armenia"
During a conversation with journalists on June 7, Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, dismissed a statement from Moscow as nonsense.
He emphasized, "First, let them stop threatening us. Enough of scaring us. Second, enough of talking about the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization). Every time they talk about the CSTO, they should come here and show where the CSTO's border crosses."
Simonyan further stressed the importance of clarity regarding Russia's obligations as a CSTO partner and a party to the Armenia-Russia treaty, stating, "Their obligations as a CSTO partner and a party to the Armenia-Russia treaty Let them say what it is. But it is enough for them to make statements about our sovereign territory!"
Recently, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin had cautioned Armenia against disclosing sensitive security-related information to Western countries. He warned that such actions could not only jeopardize the sovereignty of Armenia but also hinder efforts for Russia and the CSTO to collaborate effectively with other allies in defending their territories. Galuzin stated, "Armenia's thoughtless steps, such as giving Western countries full access to the national data bank and sensitive information about the country's security, not only threaten the sovereignty of the state but also make it impossible for Russia and the CSTO to create a unified defense of the territory together with other allies."
