On July 3, a trilateral meeting took place in Astana among Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Turkiye, and Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that this summit, involving the leaders of Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Pakistan in a trilateral format, was held for the first time, marking a historic occasion with the potential for regular future meetings. The leaders highlighted the shared historical and religious roots and fraternal relations among the three countries, noting consistent mutual support within international organizations and stressing the importance of continuing this collaboration.

They acknowledged existing trilateral formats between Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Turkiye at the level of parliament speakers and foreign ministers, with several meetings having already taken place. The leaders reaffirmed Azerbaijan's complete restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, expressing concern over external militarization policies in the South Caucasus region.

The political and moral support extended by Turkey and Pakistan to Azerbaijan during the 44-day Patriotic War was reiterated and highly valued. The sides discussed prospects for advancing economic and trade relations, as well as cooperation in innovation, energy, agriculture, education, humanitarian aid, and other sectors, noting positive growth in economic ties while emphasizing the need to fully capitalize on the potential among the three nations.

Pakistan's involvement in the Middle Corridor initiative was highlighted as beneficial for enhancing economic and trade relations with the involved countries. Defense cooperation and defense industry collaboration were also discussed, including plans for regular joint military exercises among the armed forces of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Pakistan following the successful 2021 "Three Brothers" special forces exercises. The leaders explored opportunities for joint defense industry production.

President Aliyev invited President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Sharif to participate in COP29, an invitation that both leaders gladly accepted.
