Azerbaijan Allocated Additional EUR 2 Million for Flood Relief in Pakistan
On January 9, at the international conference on "Climate Resilient Pakistan" jointly organized by the UN and Pakistan in Geneva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov stated that Azerbaijan allocated an additional EUR 2 million for flood relief in Pakistan, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.
"In the speech, it was noted that our country shares the pain of the people and state of Pakistan, and since 2010, nearly 7 million US dollars have been contributed to support the elimination of the consequences of the floods that occurred in different years in this country," the information added.
"It was brought to the attention that Azerbaijan provided financial aid to Pakistan in the amount of 2 million US dollars in August 2022 in support of the elimination of the destruction caused by the recent floods, which are considered the worst natural disaster in the history of Pakistan," the ministry emphasized.
"It is noted in the information that Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov informed the Pakistani side and the conference participants that, taking into account the scale of the complications, Azerbaijan will provide an additional 2 million US dollars in humanitarian financial assistance to support the initiative, based on the instructions of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev," it continued.
Notably, a natural disaster in 2022 flooded one-third of the country's territory, killing and injuring 15,000 people and displacing 33 million people.
