Azerbaijan and China Strengthen Bilateral Relations in High-Level Meeting
On May 14, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev welcomed a delegation led by Shen Yueyue, the Vice-Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairperson of the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation Commission of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Acknowledging the successful development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and China, President Aliyev emphasized that these ties are grounded in principles of friendship, mutual understanding, and support. He fondly recalled his meetings with President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, characterizing them as demonstrations of friendly relations, and expressed anticipation for their next encounter.
President Aliyev highlighted the ample opportunities to elevate bilateral relations to new heights, noting the already close cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. He particularly commended the recent increase in reciprocal official visits, which bolster bilateral bonds.
Expressing satisfaction with the growth in the economic, trade, and transportation sectors, President Aliyev also praised the increased mutual travel between the peoples of Azerbaijan and China.
In response, Shen Yueyue conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping, expressing admiration for President Aliyev's leadership and Azerbaijan's progress under his guidance. She underscored China's support for Azerbaijan's chosen development path and its active international engagement in South-South cooperation to address global challenges like climate change.
Shen Yueyue also congratulated President Aliyev on his resounding victory in the presidential election, describing it as a testament to the strong support for his policies by the Azerbaijani people. She expressed confidence in further developing bilateral relations under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state.
President Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan's consistent support for China's territorial integrity and its adherence to the "One China" policy. He emphasized Azerbaijan's stance against separatism and global policies based on double standards.
In turn, Shen Yueyue affirmed China's unwavering support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence, expressing gratitude for Azerbaijan's backing of the "One China" policy.
President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's readiness to cooperate with China within the framework of COP29 and its commitment to representing the interests of Global South countries. He also noted the importance of cooperation between the ruling parties of Azerbaijan and China and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's cultural and humanitarian initiatives in fostering people-to-people diplomacy between the two nations.
Discussions during the meeting encompassed various areas of cooperation, including renewable energy, electric vehicles, investments, transportation, and the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. Both sides hailed the qualitatively new level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and China across multiple sectors, expressing mutual commitment to further strengthening their partnership for the benefit of both countries.
