Azerbaijan and EU Discuss Peace with Armenia in Brussels Meeting

On June 19, the joint press release issued by the EU External Action Service stated that during the fifth session of the Security Dialogue between the European Union and Azerbaijan, which took place in Brussels on June 13, issues of mutual interest in bilateral relations, security, and foreign policy were discussed, including the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace negotiations process. The meeting, co-chaired by Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General of the EU External Action Service for Political Issues, and Hikmet Hajiyev, the Adviser to the President of Azerbaijan on Foreign Policy Issues, involved an open and frank exchange of views. 

"The participants touched upon the normalization process of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as broader regional security issues. In this context, the importance of strengthening regional stability and continuous communication was noted. The Azerbaijani side emphasized the bilateral nature of the dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The EU stressed its continued support for the peace process for a safe, stable, peaceful, and prosperous South Caucasus for the well-being of all peoples living in the region," the joint statement said.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted Azerbaijan's role as a reliable and important energy partner and its significance in the future development of the Middle Corridor. The EU's support for humanitarian demining and assistance to mine victims in Azerbaijan was highly appreciated. 

The EU confirmed that future assistance to Azerbaijan's anti-mine program will continue within the framework of the European Team Initiative and other programs. Azerbaijan expressed its interest in exploring possible cooperation with the EU within the framework of the European Peace Fund.

At the end of the meeting, it was noted that the EU and Azerbaijan agreed to continue regular exchanges on foreign and security policy issues. They emphasized the importance of meaningful work in all relevant areas of bilateral cooperation within the framework of the EU-Azerbaijan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
