| News, Security, Azerbaijan

On January 31, the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported that armored units of Turkey and Azerbaijan tested the maneuverability of heavy equipment during exercises near the Turkish city of Kars.

With the participation of units of the tank division and the mechanized infantry division of both countries, offensive tasks were carried out with live firing. According to the information, various types of shells were used during the exercises.

Notably, military personnel from Turkey and seven other countries, including Azerbaijan, are conducting joint exercises in Kars, located near the border with Armenia. Training maneuvers called Kış 2023 (Winter 2023) are carried out based on the 14th motorized rifle brigade as part of the 3rd field army of the ground forces of the Turkish Armed Forces (headquarters in Erzincan). The exercises will last until February 2. Their task is to increase the level of coherence, synchronize fire capabilities, and train units on basic issues such as deployment and troop supply.

As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, on December 5, 2022, Azerbaijan-Turkey joint military exercises were held according to the agreement on cooperation in the military field signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
