Azerbaijan Hosts Trilateral Talks with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia on Military Intelligence

On December 3, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, held meetings with military delegations from Saudi Arabia and Türkiye during their official visits to Azerbaijan.

During the meeting with the Saudi delegation, Colonel General Hasanov welcomed the visitors and highlighted the strong relations between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, which are based on friendship and brotherhood under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. He commended Saudi Arabia's participation in the 5th Anniversary Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition (ADEX), held on September 24–26, 2024, in Baku. Colonel General Hasanov also briefed the delegation on the ongoing demining efforts in territories liberated after the Patriotic War and expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia's support. He noted that since the war, 382 individuals, including civilians and servicemen, had been injured in mine explosions, with 70 losing their lives. He further wished success to participants of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Saudi Arabia trilateral working meeting on intelligence being held in Baku.

The Saudi delegation expressed gratitude for the hospitality and congratulated Colonel General Hasanov on Azerbaijan’s restoration of its territorial integrity. They conveyed condolences to the families of the Shehids and emphasized that mutual visits of military delegations enhance bilateral relations. Discussions also covered prospects for cooperation in military and military educational spheres and regional security issues. Later, the Saudi delegation met Colonel General Karim Valiyev, the First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army. Both sides emphasized the importance of mutual trust, experience exchange, and the further development of cooperation.

On the same day, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov received a Turkish delegation led by Colonel General Yaşar Kadıoğlu, Chief of the Main Intelligence Department of the Armed Forces of Türkiye. Colonel General Hasanov highlighted the ongoing development of military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye and the importance of events under the Azerbaijani-Turkish High-Level Military Dialogue Meeting. He also briefed the delegation on successful reforms in the Azerbaijani Army following the 44-day Patriotic War.

Colonel General Kadıoğlu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and stressed that the strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye is built on friendly and fraternal relations. He highlighted the significance of joint exercises for experience sharing.

The Turkish delegation also met with Colonel General Karim Valiyev at the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army. Both sides agreed on the importance of increasing the intensity of joint exercises to enhance the professionalism of servicemen. They emphasized the necessity of such meetings to further expand military cooperation. Discussions included a wide exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
