Hikmet Javadov, the Secretary of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Interparliamentary Working Group and chairman of the United Diaspora of Ukrainian Azerbaijanis told Voice of America that on April 18, MPs visited the cities of Bucha and Irpen of Kyiv region. The MP of the Parliament of Azerbaijan was accompanied by Volodymyr Kreydenko, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

"In the cities of Irpen and Bucha, local authorities showed the destroyed buildings and infrastructure to the deputies of the Parliament of Azerbaijan. In addition, we had a meeting with the mayor of both cities in the park and school named after Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva in Irpen," he said. According to him, the delegation of the Parliament of Azerbaijan will meet with the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and members of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary working group, as well as the vice-speaker, on April 19.

"Then there will be meetings at the Accounting Chamber and Taras Shevchenko State University. In addition, a meeting of members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Ukraine with the participation of Ukrainian and Azerbaijani deputies and employees of the Azerbaijani embassy is planned. At the meeting, discussions will be held on the problems of Azerbaijanis living in Ukraine since the beginning of the war and the ways to solve them," the information stated.

Speaking about the visit's goals, he said this is the next meeting of Ukrainian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary working groups. "This visit took place at the invitation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The purpose of the visit is the meeting of inter-parliamentary working groups, discuss various issues, and hold meetings to develop parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries. A month ago, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine visited Azerbaijan. Ukrainian deputies held meetings in Baku, meetings with the vice-speaker and several ministries. The next meeting will be held in Kyiv," Hikmet Javadov said.

He said about the importance of the visit that Azerbaijan and Ukraine have common problems related to territorial integrity. "Ukraine and Azerbaijan always support each other's territorial integrity. The Azerbaijani diaspora is with the people of Ukraine in defense of the right voice of Ukraine. Members of the Azerbaijani diaspora participate in battles for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and we have about 35 martyrs and many wounded. We think that the development of parliamentary diplomacy has a positive effect on the activities of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Ukraine. Regular meetings of the working groups contribute to the development of relations between the two countries," the working group secretary said.
