EU Sanctions Chechen Officials; Response from Chechnya

| News, Politics, North Caucasus

Muslim Khuchiev, the Chairman of the government of Chechnya, Zamid Chalaev, commander of the Akhmat Kadyrov Special Purpose Police Regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Chechen Republic, and Mansur Soltaev, Human Rights Ombudsman in the Chechen Republic, were included in the 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia.

The new package aims to fight against the circumvention of restrictive measures. The sanctions will come into effect on June 24. As part of the new measures, the EU imposed sanctions on more than 100 individuals and legal entities. The EU has included 87 new organizations in the list of structures that directly support the military-industrial complex of Russia; they are subject to tougher restrictions on the export of dual-use goods and advanced technologies. It is specified that companies registered in China, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, and Armenia will be added to this list.

Mansur Soltaev was immeasurably delighted to be included in the 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia. "It is a great honor for me to be among the worthy compatriots who stood up for the defense of the civilian population of Donbas and took care of defenseless children who suffered from the arbitrariness of the criminal Kyiv regime. I didn’t even know that it was so popular in the vastness of the European Union. I see that with each package of sanctions, my popularity as an enemy of the Ukrofascists is growing," Soltaev stated

According to the Ombudsman, the EU shows its impotence with the next package of sanctions. "From the very beginning of the special military operation [Russia's war in Ukraine], I expressed my clear position on this issue. This whole pack of European officials cannot forgive me for this. They cannot forgive my trips to the Donbas, what I told about what I saw there. No sanctions will stop us in our charitable activities - the implementation of the mission to save people in trouble. The European Union's punitive measures against Russia only make me laugh out loud. With the next package of sanctions, they show only their impotence. The West has always had a perverted concept of human rights and democratic values. These hypocritical European officials have no moral right to even stutter about them," Soltaev said.
