Georgia Eyes Closer Economic Ties with Saudi Arabia

Tbilisi hosted the Georgia-Saudi Arabia Business Forum, which was opened by First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili and Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih.

Khalid Al-Falih thanked Georgia for hosting and organizing the business forum. "I would like to congratulate our two great states on 30 years of diplomatic relations. Our countries established diplomatic relations in 1994, shortly after Georgia's independence, and we have enjoyed 30 years of excellent friendship. During this period, we have strengthened economic and political relations, especially people-to-people relations. I would also like to congratulate Georgia on receiving the status of a candidate for EU membership" - said the Minister.

The Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia recalled that in December 2022, during his visit to Saudi Arabia, the former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili supported the holding of the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh. Khalid Al-Falih noted that a few months ago, Saudi Arabia won the right to host the World Expo 2030 with a convincing victory.

The forum was attended by about 300 delegates, including representatives of the Georgian government and legislature, the government and business delegation of Saudi Arabia, and representatives of the Georgian business community.

At the end of the Georgia-Saudi Arabia Business Forum, an interactive session was held between Georgian and Arab businessmen, where both sides had an opportunity to establish business ties and meet potential business partners. At the forum, the two countries exchanged memorandums on mutual cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy and cultural relations.

As part of the visit to Georgia, the Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met with the Prime Minister of Georgia. The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation in various directions. on deepening the partnership, including trade and economic aspects. It was noted that the Georgian-Saudi Business Forum to be held in Tbilisi will contribute to the further development of bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, attention was also paid to the favorable investment environment and potential in Georgia.

It was noted during the meeting that the Georgian side expressed its readiness to actively work on the Saudi-Georgia investment promotion and protection agreement, as well as the resumption of free trade negotiations. The Prime Minister of Georgia responded to the meeting on social networks. "It was a pleasure to meet the Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia, Khalid Al Falih. Strengthening relations between Georgia and Saudi Arabia is essential for mutually beneficial economic growth and prosperity. "Georgia is committed to the idea of strengthening cooperation of the Arab states of the Persian Gulf in the entire region" - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
