Georgian Defense Minister Unveils Ambitious Air Defense Strategy for Tbilisi
On December 17, Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze said that the Georgian Defense Ministry will ensure full protection of the Tbilisi sky with air defense elements in two years.
"As a result of already formalized purchases, in two years, the sky above Tbilisi will be fully protected, including strategic facilities, airports, military bases, and so on. This has never happened in Georgia, we will achieve it," Burchuladze said.
According to the minister, the personnel of the Georgian Defense Forces are being prepared to start operating air defense elements purchased from France based on the contract signed back in 2015. Negotiations on the purchase of portable anti-aircraft missile systems of Stinger type have been started both at the expense of the Georgian budget and with the support of partners.
Notably, the Georgian army received the first batch of Polish Warmate kamikaze drones and FlyEye reconnaissance UAVs. These drones were produced at the joint Polish-Georgian enterprise Delta-VB, built on the territory of Georgia.
