Georgian Defense Minister Visits Baku to Discuss Regional Security Issues
On April 24, Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze visited Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the visit, the perspectives of cooperation between the two countries and regional security issues were discussed.
According to the Press Office of the President of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev's meeting with Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze emphasized the successful development of friendship and brotherly relations between the two countries in various fields, including the military field.
According to the information of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, at the meeting of the defense ministers of the two countries, the parties discussed in detail the provision of peace and security in the region, the further expansion of cooperation in the fields of military, military-technical, military education and other issues of mutual interest. At the meeting, they discussed the prospects for developing bilateral and trilateral military cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia. Also, parties exchanged detailed views on increasing the intensity of joint exercises and working meetings.
"The "Agreement on cooperation in the defense field between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia" was signed at the meeting held in a large format," the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan added.
According to the information of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, regional security challenges were discussed during the meeting between the defense ministers of the two countries. The ministers also discussed current issues and plans for bilateral defense cooperation, including participation in international exercises and military training programs. "During the conversation, the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia trilateral cooperation format was also touched upon. It was noted that strategic level meetings, cooperation in the field of defense, joint exercises, and meetings of experts strengthen mutual operational capability between the countries," the Ministry of Defense of Georgia noted.
Moreover, Minister Burchuladze invited the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan to visit Tbilisi on May 26 on the occasion of Georgia's Independence Day.
