Georgian FM Darchiashvili Holds Talks with Finnish Leaders on Bilateral Cooperation

During his visit to Finland on 13 March, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili conducted substantive talks with senior Finnish officials, underlining the importance of bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields.

In his meeting with President Alexander Stubb, Minister Darchiashvili underlined the close partnership between Georgia and Finland and expressed gratitude for Finland's long-standing support. They discussed the prospects for further strengthening cooperation, both bilaterally and in multilateral frameworks. In particular, they discussed Georgia's aspirations for closer ties with the European Union, with Minister Darchiashvili expressing optimism about Finland's support for Georgia's EU integration efforts, especially following the granting of candidate status. The Minister also praised President Stubb's key role in promoting peace during the 2008 conflict, and underlined Finland's significant contribution to Georgia's stability and development.
Similarly, Minister Darchiashvili's meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen included a comprehensive review of the current agenda between the two nations. They explored ways to deepen cooperation in various sectors, with a particular focus on strengthening economic ties through initiatives such as the Georgian-Finnish Business Forum. They also discussed Georgia's path towards EU accession, with Minister Darchiashvili stressing the importance of Finland's support in advancing Georgia's European integration agenda. They also exchanged views on the security situation in Georgia's occupied territories, underlining the importance of international solidarity in achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.

Ilia Darchiashvili also met with Anders Adlercreutz, Minister for European Affairs of Finland. The two ministers discussed the ongoing cooperation between Georgia and Finland in various fields. They took stock of the existing partnership and explored avenues for further cooperation. The meeting focused on Georgia's relations with the European Union (EU) and the progress made on Georgia's path towards EU accession. Minister Darchiashvili underlined the historic significance of Georgia's candidate status and highlighted the country's active efforts to advance its integration into the EU. He outlined the ambitious reforms undertaken by the Georgian Government in various sectors and expressed optimism that Georgia's progress would be duly recognised and appreciated by its European partners. Minister Darchiashvili thanked Minister Adlercreutz for Finland's unwavering support for Georgia's European integration aspirations. He reiterated the Georgian Government's unwavering commitment to further progress on the EU path and stressed the importance of continued cooperation and collaboration between Georgia and its European partners.

Throughout the meetings, Minister Darchiashvili expressed his deep appreciation for Finland's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and European aspirations. The discussions underlined the mutual commitment of both countries to further strengthen their partnership and cooperation in various fields.

At the end of the meetings, Minister Darchiashvili extended a warm invitation to his Finnish counterpart to visit Georgia, symbolising the desire to deepen bilateral relations and promote greater understanding between the two nations.
