Georgian Foreign Minister met with Aliyev and Bayramov in Baku
On 27 April, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili.
Aliyev congratulated Darchiashvili on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and wished him success in his work. Ilham Aliyev noted that the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia over the past 30 years are an important factor in regional stability and cooperation. Touching upon economic cooperation, the President of Azerbaijan stressed that there are new opportunities, especially in the field of transport.
President Ilham Aliyev said that their countries have common views on the development of the South Caucasus, noting that there are good opportunities for trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, especially in the post-conflict period, and noted that the Azerbaijani side is ready for such cooperation. The head of state said that Georgia also shared this position and expressed hope that Armenia would understand that this was the only way to establish stability and security in the region.
Darchiashvili conveyed greetings of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and invitation to visit Georgia to President Ilham Aliyev. Aliyev thanked for the greetings and invitation to visit and asked to convey his greetings to the Prime Minister of Georgia. Noting that he held very fruitful meetings in Baku, Darchiashvili said he would spare no effort to contribute to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries. The guest praised the Georgian side's support for the development of their relations.
On the same day, Azerbaijans Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also met with Georgian counterpart. The one-on-one meeting between the ministers continued with the participation of delegations from both sides.
Bayramov noted that the traditional relations of friendship, good neighbourliness and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia are based on a solid foundation and are based on the principles of international law. He said that the first visit of his Georgian counterpart as Foreign Minister to Azerbaijan was a clear example of friendship between their countries. The Minister stressed that the high-level political dialogue between the two countries and intensive reciprocal visits have given a positive impetus to the further development of relations.
Darchiashvili noted with satisfaction the meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of relations, which they will celebrate the 30th anniversary of this year. He invited Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to visit Georgia.
The parties agreed to cooperate in all areas between the two countries, including economic, trade, energy, transport, humanitarian, cultural, tourism, and others. They exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation in various fields. They were happy to see an increase in trade turnover between the two countries, emphasising that there is still great potential in this area and the importance of continuing joint efforts. In this regard, the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia were noted.
Bayramov briefed his counterpart on the steps taken to normalise relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the post-conflict phase, as well as the work done by the Azerbaijani government in the liberated areas, including mine clearance, restoration, and construction.Darchiashvili welcomed Azerbaijan's efforts to achieve peace and said that Georgia supported the process. The parties also discussed the continuation of cooperation on multilateral platforms and within international organisations, the situation in Ukraine and other issues of mutual interest.
