Georgian PM Comments on Ukraine-Georgia Delicate Relations

| News, Politics, Georgia

According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, the main event, challenge, and problem in 2022 for the whole world was the war in Ukraine. As he noted during his speech at the "Ambassadors’ Conference 2022", Russia's unjustified military aggression turned the world agenda upside down.

"During the whole year, the main event, the main challenge and problem for the whole world was the war in Ukraine, Russia's unjustified military aggression, which actually turned the entire world order upside down. I would like to agree with Ilia Darchiashvili; our embassy and our ambassador to Ukraine did not leave Kyiv until the last minute, while the embassies of other countries did. Our embassy fulfills its assigned duty until the last minute. I want to thank our embassy and our ambassador to Ukraine, each employee," – noted Garibashvili.

He continued, "Today's events are a big challenge for all of us. It is our stated desire that this war ends as soon as possible since this war poses a threat not only to Ukraine itself but to the security architecture of the entire Europe and our region. Naturally, this war and its consequences will have an impact not only on our country but on the whole world. It is necessary to end this conflict, this war, in time; this is our wish. I want to wish Ukrainian friends and Ukrainian people a quick end to this war. We reaffirm our support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its sovereignty. I would like to note that we have done our best and are doing our best to help our Ukrainian friends and people. Since the beginning of the war, we have supported Ukraine loudly on practically all platforms, we have joined more than 400 resolutions and statements, we have expressed our support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in all formats," – Garibashvili said.

The PM also raised the issue of the Ukrainian government's accusations against Tbilisi. “It was not pleasant for us to hear the statements that we heard from the representatives of the Ukrainian authorities. However, I would like to point out here that since the country and its government are at war, we do not want to make an unnecessary statement on this topic," - noted Garibashvili.

In addition, the PM also argued that his government’s obligation is to protect the interests of its own country. "Our main task is to protect our national interests. I have said many times, and we have confirmed it with our policy and actions, that, of course, we respect the sovereignty of all countries, but we love our country the most. Therefore, our main obligation is to protect the interests of our country. Naturally, the role of you, the ambassadors, in this great work is special so that we can correctly convey our message to the capitals, correctly represent the interests of our country, and effectively deal with the disinformation campaign that flows not only from our countries but also from other countries. We understand very well that this is an orchestrated attack on the interests of our country. Therefore, this attack, this disinformation needs effective countermeasures," said the PM.

He also responded to the criticism leveled against his policies by the opposition that “As a result of our reasonable, consistent policy, today we have not only peace and stability in the country, we have double-digit economic growth, while you know very well that there is a very difficult situation in Europe, there is a reduction of the economy, a recession all over the world, and in fact, a very unpredictable situation has been created in the world today. In this situation, our small but strong state maintains peace, prosperity, stability, and double-digit economic growth."
