Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in New York on September 22 on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

According to the Georgian government, the meeting on the strategic partnership between Georgia and Türkiye and the positive development of political and economic relations. Kobakhidze noted that Türkiye remains Georgia’s largest trading partner.

The two leaders discussed regional infrastructure projects, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which serves as an important component of regional connectivity. Transport and energy cooperation also featured in the meeting. Kobakhidze later stated on X that the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Georgian prime minister arrived in New York on September 21 with a government delegation for the UN General Assembly. He is scheduled to address the General Debate on September 24 and hold additional meetings with foreign leaders and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
