Meeting with US Department of State Senior Advisor

On March 6, Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received Louis Bono, the US Department of State Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani President reported.

The head of state welcomed the results of a meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference and thanked US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for his continued efforts in this direction.

During the conversation, they exchanged views on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the process of negotiations on a peace treaty.

After the meeting, Bono stated: "A few weeks ago, I accompanied Secretary of State Blinken on his trip to Munich, where he had meetings with President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan. The meeting was constructive, and this opinion is shared by all participants of the meeting. After that, the Secretary of State asked me to visit the region as soon as possible to continue the peace process."

In response to the question, "if provocations and ceasefire violations occur after the meetings and agreements between the representatives of Baku and Yerevan, what can the US do to maintain the peace process" he said that the US acts as a mediator. "For the peace process to be sustainable, the parties themselves must want it," Bono said.

In response to the question about the Lachin Corridor, Bono recalled the words of Secretary of State Blinken in Munich. Blinken said that the road should be open for public traffic. "We admit that there is a security issue, but it is important that essential goods and civilian goods move and be accessible to the people of Karabakh," Bono added. "Our goal and task are to end the suffering of Azerbaijanis and Armenians so that these peoples can live peacefully together," he concluded.

Meeting with EU Special Representative for South Caucasus

On the same day, Ilham Aliyev received Toivo Klaar, the Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus.

The head of state recalled with pleasure the meeting he held with the President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel within the framework of the Munich Security Conference and emphasized that Azerbaijan country is committed to the Brussels peace agenda.

Toivo Klaar, in turn, noted the fruitful meeting of the President of the Council of the European Union with President Ilham Aliyev in Munich and said that the European Union would continue contributing to the relations normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

At the meeting, views were exchanged on the negotiation process for the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
