In January 2022, Georgia's foreign trade increased by 41.2%

According to preliminary estimates issued by the National Statistics Office (Geostat) Georgia's international trade turnover climbed by 41.2% in January 2022 compared to the same month last year, totalling USD 1.1 billion.

Exports surged by 47.6% to USD 331.3 million year over year, while imports jumped by 38.7% to USD 779.1 million. Meanwhile, in January 2022, the trade deficit was USD 447.8 million, accounting for 40.3% of total trade turnover.

Turkey led the list of Georgia's main commercial partners by turnover, with USD 168.7 million, followed by USD 128.6 million, USD 122 million, USD 90.6 million, and USD 65.2 million from Russia, Azerbaijan, China, and Ukraine, respectively. Bulgaria was Georgia's greatest commercial partner in terms of exports, with USD 49.6 million, followed by USD 46.8 million from Azerbaijan, USD 42.7 million from Russia, USD 31.6 million from Ukraine, and USD 27.8 million from China, respectively.

In terms of imports, Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, China, the United States, and Turkey were Georgia's major trading partners, with USD 141.1 million, USD 85.9 million, USD 75.2 million, USD 62.8 million, and USD 35.8 million, respectively.

With USD 66.3 million in exports in 2021, copper ores and concentrates topped the list of export commodities. Cars accounted for USD 36.4 million, ferroalloys for USD 31.4 million, nitrogen fertilisers for USD 17.6 million, wine or fresh grapes for USD 14.7 million, mineral waters for USD 11.3 million, medicines for USD 11.1 million, spirits for USD 8.9 million, nuts for USD 7.7 million, gold for USD 6.7 million, and other commodities for USD 119.3 million.
