Israeli Foreign Ministry Delegation Visits Azerbaijan

Meeting with Jeyhun Bayramov

On January 17, a meeting was held with Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a delegation led by Aliza Bin Noun, the political director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel. The Israeli delegation comprised senior officials of the Central Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ambassadors of Israel in Eurasian countries, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

During the meeting, the parties discussed various aspects of bilateral and multilateral relations, including economy, security, education, and high technologies. 

The Azerbaijani Minister noted that the activity of Azerbaijan's tourism bureau and trade representation in Israel and the recent establishment of Azerbaijan's embassy will significantly contribute to the further development of relations.

"During the meeting, the other party was informed about the aggressive policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan, the occupation of our country's territories by Armenia for nearly 30 years, as well as the steps and initiatives taken by Azerbaijan in the direction of establishing relations with Armenia and the peace process after the 44-day Patriotic War. In addition, the provocations committed by Armenia were mentioned," the report added.

"Aliza Bin Noun expressed her satisfaction with visiting Azerbaijan and pointed out that the meeting of the ambassadors of Israel in Eurasia was held in Baku, which is an indicator of the importance Israel attaches to the relations with our country. He said that the Jewish community living in Azerbaijan plays the role of a bridge connecting the two countries. Aliza Bin Nun pointed out that the Israeli side is interested in increasing efforts to further develop the existing cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan in bilateral and multilateral formats," the information added.

Within the framework of the meeting, the importance of high-level dialogue and visits between the two countries was emphasized, and international and regional issues of mutual interest were discussed.

Meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev 

On January 17, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, hosted high-ranking representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mukhtar Mammadov, the newly appointed Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Israel, also attended the conference.

Aliza Bin Noun, the Israeli Foreign Ministry's Political Director, and Ambassador Joshua Zarka, the Deputy Director General and Head of Strategic Affairs, were met by Hajiyev.

"It is a pleasure to welcome you to the historic Nobel House and to engage you in a wide-ranging conversation with Aliza Bin Noun and Joshua Zarka on bilateral relations between our nations and on regional topics of shared interest. Our collaboration will grow as a result of the opening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Israel," Hajiyev tweeted.

As reported by Caucasus Watch, a meeting of Israeli Ambassadors to the Eurasian countries took place in Baku on January 16-18. The topic of discussion was the war in Ukraine, regional problems in light of the Iranian factor, and plans for 2023. The main topic of the consultations held with the participation of the ambassadors of the Eurasian countries is the difficult situation in the region in the context of the war in Ukraine, the Iran-Israel conflict, and the plans for 2023.
