Jeyhun Bayramov Holds Meetings with High-level Officials at UN

Meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran 

On September 24, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran and the successful implementation of several projects by the two countries. Satisfaction with the cooperation in forming regional transport and communication corridors was expressed. J. Bayramov informed his interlocutor in detail of the latest provocations committed by Armenia on the border with Azerbaijan. An exchange of views on some issues of bilateral cooperation also took place.

Meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary 

On the same day, Jeyhun Bayramov also met with Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

During the meeting, satisfaction with the level of development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary was expressed. The parties exchanged views on the cooperation perspectives on multilateral platforms and regional issues.

Minister expressed appreciation for the existing high-level strategic partnership between the two countries. He also provided his interlocutor with detailed information on the current situation in the region. Ministers particularly emphasized the development dynamics of cooperation between the countries in political, economic, energy, education, humanitarian, tourism, and other fields. In this regard, they noted the joint intergovernmental commission's role in expanding economic relations.

Péter Szijjártó expressed determination to expand the relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary in several areas. Minister Péter Szijjártó emphasized the great importance attached to the development of relations with Azerbaijan, as well as the respect and support of the country's territorial integrity. Minister also expressed the interest of Hungary in participating in the process of restoration and reconstruction of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. Noting that Azerbaijan is an important partner in ensuring Europe's energy security, Minister Péter Szijjártó drew attention to cooperation plans in the energy field.

Meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland

On September 22, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan met with Zbigniew Rau, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, as the acting chairman of the OSCE.

The ministers discussed cooperation within the framework of the OSCE, as well as regional and international security issues. An exchange of views took place on Armenia's continuous provocations and the causes and consequences of recent tensions in the region.

Meeting with Prime Minister of North Macedonia

On the same day, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Bayramov met with Dimitar Kovačevski, the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed satisfaction with the bilateral friendly relations between Azerbaijan and North Macedonia. Work carried out by Azerbaijan in the field of energy, as well as plans, were brought up. Minister provided detailed information to his interlocutor on the 30-year-long occupation of territories of Azerbaijan, the destruction of cities and villages, the new situation in the region after the 44-day Patriotic War, the work done by Azerbaijan regarding the implementation of Trilateral statements, as well as the latest provocations by Armenia.

Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski expressed interest in further developing relations between the two states and the importance of continuing the dialogue between institutions. Azerbaijan's contribution to Europe's energy supply was especially emphasized.

Meeting with leaders and representatives of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the coalition of American Jewish organizations

Jeyhun Bayramov met with leaders and representatives of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the coalition of American Jewish organizations on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

An exchange of views took place on cooperation with Jewish organizations in the United States, prospects, and the regional situation. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance attached by Azerbaijan to establishing close relations with Jewish communities all over the world and emphasized the existence of several synagogues, schools, and cultural centers in Azerbaijan. The parties exchanged their views on the latest situation in the South Caucasus and the steps taken in the post-conflict period after the Patriotic War. Bayramov informed his interlocutors on the large-scale restoration and construction work carried out by Azerbaijan in the territories liberated from the occupation of Armenia and spoke about the purposeful destruction of territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia during the occupation, as well as the looting of cultural heritage.

The Jewish organizations noted the traditions of interreligious harmony, tolerance and multiculturalism, and life in mutual understanding of Christians, Jews, and people belonging to other religions in Azerbaijan with a majority Muslim population. The parties emphasized that additional strength to developing strong partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Israel is bestowed by the existence of the Jewish community living in peace and tranquility in Azerbaijan for many centuries.

Meeting with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia

On September 21, Jeyhun Bayramov met with Rastislav Káčer, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated his colleague on his new appointment. He noted that the bilateral relations between the countries are developing in different directions and that there is great potential for further expansion of this cooperation. The importance of consistent work to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of economy, as well as the promotion of mutual investments, was emphasized.

The Minister gave detailed information to his counterpart about the new situation in the region after the 44-day Patriotic War, the measures taken in connection with the implementation of the trilateral statements, the behavior of the Armenian side inconsistent with the obligations assumed by the above-mentioned statements and recent provocations, as well as the threat of landmines that directly threaten the lives of people in the liberated territories.

Minister Rastislav Káčer noted the importance of continuing the existing political dialogue between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of respecting the principles of international law, which are the basis of interstate relations. He stressed that he is determined to develop further the traditional friendly relations, cooperation, and economic and trade relations between Slovakia and Azerbaijan. Considering Slovakia's extensive experience and technologies, he pointed out his intention to support efforts in demining activities.

Meeting with the Foreign Minister of Finland

On the same day, Jeyhun Bayramov met with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto.

Ministers discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and the existing cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including the OSCE.

Finnish Minister Pekka Haavisto expressed his concern about the tense situation in the region and expressed interest in the current situation. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his interlocutor of the series of provocations by Armenia in the region. Minister emphasized the necessity to continue the work towards the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia based on the norms and principles of international law.

Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia

On September 20, Bayramov met with Urmas Reinsalu, the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, within the framework of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed his Estonian colleague about the attacks on the positions of Azerbaijan on September 12 that are a continuation of the ongoing provocative actions of Armenia, which serve to hinder the peace process. He emphasized that the achieved ceasefire was violated by Armenia, which led to additional loss of life. Minister also noted that in the post-conflict period Azerbaijan is interested in solving the current problems with Armenia at the politico-diplomatic level.

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu stated the intention of Estonia to develop bilateral relations with Azerbaijan further. Expressing concern over the current unstable situation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia urged the parties to act with restraint and emphasized the importance of solving the problems through dialogue based on norms and principles of international law, especially within the framework of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Meeting with OSCE Secretary General

On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan met with Helga Schmid, OSCE Secretary General.

Bayramov emphasized the importance that Azerbaijan attaches to cooperation with the OSCE and the importance of implementing the cooperation program between Azerbaijan and the OSCE in the post-conflict period. At the same time, he noted several destructive activities of Armenia within the OSCE.

Foreign Minister informed in detail the OSCE Secretary General about the recent large-scale provocations carried out by Armenia in the region, as well as the current situation, issues related to the implementation of Trilateral statements, and the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in the direction of the normalization of relations between the two countries. Minister also drew attention to issues such as the delimitation of borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia and demining. He emphasized that Azerbaijan is in favor of starting the negotiating peace treaty without delay despite the recent military clashes and loss of life.

In turn, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid expressed her concern over the recent clashes and her condolences for the loss of life. The Secretary-General emphasized the readiness to support the normalization process, considering the long-term experience of the OSCE in the region.

Meeting with Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria

On September 20, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met Alexander Schallenberg, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria.

The politicians discussed the bilateral cooperation issues, prospects of Azerbaijan-Austria relations, energy security, and the latest regional situation.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his interlocutor about the large-scale restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the post-conflict period. Noting that the elimination of the factor of occupation has created opportunities for the normalization of relations between the two countries, and the promotion of peace-building initiatives by Azerbaijan, he emphasized the obstruction of the processes by Armenia despite the above-mentioned facts and informed his interlocutor on Armenia's large-scale provocations. He pointed out that Azerbaijan is interested in efforts to create peace and stability in the region and in solving the current problems at the political level.

The Austrian Minister stated that the situation in the region is a cause for concern and stressed the importance of the cease-fire and the return to the negotiations. Austria noted the necessity of ensuring Europe's energy security and, in this regard, stressed the importance of the memorandum of understanding signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union on July 18 of this year.

The parties also discussed cooperation issues between Azerbaijan and the European Union and other issues of mutual interest.
