Meeting with the Minister of Defense

On March 29, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, met with Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defense of Israel, within the framework of his official visit to Israel, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

During the meeting, cooperation between the two countries in defense, military-technical, and other related fields, as well as regional and international security issues, were discussed. 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the exceptional role of relations between Azerbaijan and Israel in defense in the current cooperation agenda. Referring to the meeting held by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the Munich Security Conference on February 17, 2023, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that close contacts, including mutual visits, made an important contribution to the development of relations. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, peace, and construction efforts of Azerbaijan to establish peace and security in the region.

Minister Yoav Gallant, referring to the successful cooperation experience of the two countries in the defense, and military-technical field, noted the importance of using the existing potential for further expansion of cooperation. It was stated that it is important to continue mutual contacts.

Meeting with the Prime Minister

On the same day, Jeyhun Bayramov was received by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu first asked to convey his greetings to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. He remembered his visits to Azerbaijan with pleasure. He gave his congratulations on the opening of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Israel. The Prime Minister said that Israel is interested in further development of cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov recalled with satisfaction that the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our countries was celebrated last year and emphasized that establishing the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Israel is an example of the relations entering a new stage.

During the meeting, the current level of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Israel and various aspects of cooperation in security, economy, and other fields were discussed.

Meeting with the President

On March 30, Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

The meeting discussed current issues of the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Israel, including the regional and international situation.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that during the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, in various directions, including political, economic, security, culture, education, high technologies, and cyber security. Speaking with satisfaction about the agenda of bilateral cooperation developing in the fields, he noted that the close contacts between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Israel play an essential role in the development of relations.

It was brought to attention that the opening of trade and tourism representations of Azerbaijan in Israel in 2021 and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Israel in 2023 indicates the development of relations between the two countries. It was emphasized that regular political consultations and high-level visits between Azerbaijan and Israel play an essential role in further developing relations between the two countries.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other party in detail about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and construction carried out by Azerbaijan in the territories freed from occupation. At the same time, information was presented about the military-political provocations committed by Armenia, the imitation of negotiations by evading its obligations, the continuation of the mine threat, and the fact that it did not withdraw its armed forces from Azerbaijan following its obligations. It has been brought to attention that Armenia has continued aggressive rhetoric and activity in recent weeks. It was stated that Azerbaijan is determined to establish peace and security in the region and reintegrate Armenian residents.

President Isaac Herzog pointed out that Israel attaches importance to developing relations with Azerbaijan as its strategic partner. It was stated that the traditions of friendship and solidarity between the two nations are an important component of the developing relations between the countries. The positive contribution of the Jewish community living in Azerbaijan to bilateral relations was noted with satisfaction. Confidence was expressed that the opening of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Israel will play an important role in the further development of relations.
